Northampton Square, Boston, Massachusetts
- The Northampton Square complex is located in the South End/Lower Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, one block away from the Boston Medical Center and the Boston University Medical Campuses. The complex currently consists of a 29-story residential and commercial building at 35 Northampton Street and a 12-story residential building at 860 Harrison Avenue. Northampton Square project contains three main components - (1) the renovation of 35 Northampton Street, (2) the renovation of 860 Harrison Avenue, and (3) the construction of a new tower at the corner of Northampton Street and Albany Street. In total, the project will create or preserve 558 units of housing, 358 (64%) of which will be maintained as affordable and below market rent. The new 24-story tower will provide 215 new luxury apartments, consisting of 130 one bedroom apartments and 85 two bedroom apartments. The complex includes an existing 539 space parking garage with sufficient capacity for the new and the renovated housing. Preliminary estimates for the cost of the new tower is approximately $85 million. The original complex was built between 1969 and 1973 to house the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) acquired the site on July 1, 1996 and has managed the property since. In December of 2010, the BPHC selected Trinity Financial to redevelop various components of the site.
